  Designed research project and developed techniques to collect data on the Florida intercostal salt marsh ecosystems in a group setting. Successfully presented the findings and results of the semester-long research project to faculty and peers for Senior Capstone and continued to present at the SEERS Spring 2021 conference.
  Volunteered on research projects learning skills such as offshore plankton trawling, J-curve seining for fish identification in the intercostal, and squid capture and release while taking measurements. Additionally learned valuable, information such as gopher tortoise tagging using pit tags, and water quality data measurement and management.


For the past year, I have been employed by the Federation Council and Berrigan Shire as an Emergency Management officer, my role was to review their Emergency Management plans and produce a combined Emergency Management Plan together with producing a community information and disaster plan, prior to that I was employed by the Royal Flying Doctor Service as a Community Transport Coordinator, my role involved recruiting volunteers, promoting the service and building a client base. I commenced in Numurkah and later expanded to include Cobram. The service now has 750 registered clients, 23 volunteer drivers with a further 8 in training. The previous four years I was employed by Moira Shire Council as a Visitor Services Officer including a period as Team Leader, my role involves engaging with the public daily to assist them with their travel plans, I am also responsible for presenting the history of the Barmah Forest to groups ranging in number from 4 – 60. Due to my work background, I was also an Emergency Management Liaison Officer (EMLO) and Deputy Recovery Centre Manager with the shire. Before recommencing with the shire, I completed a 12-week role with Parks Victoria as a Seasonal Ranger working out of the Shepparton Depot; this role included presenting the Junior Ranger program and engaging with community groups. Before this I was employed as an Emergency Management Officer for East Division of DHHS. During this period, I have developed strong partnerships with the sector and have assisted in strengthening the capacity of the department to be able to respond more effectively in emergencies. I have worked with local government authorities assisting them to develop their emergency management plans. I have attended, assessed and distributed personal hardship payments to victims of natural disasters and emergency events. The role requires extremely advanced emergency management skills which have been obtained from twenty years with the CFA and thirty years with the Victoria Police. I have an in-depth knowledge of Emergency Management processes and procedures. One of my key skills is to develop and maintain relationships with a large list of key stakeholders including, local governments, emergency services, group training companies, education providers, community groups and many other non-government organisations and State Government departments. Prior to this role I was employed by the Moira Shire Council as a Community Development Officer, in this role I worked closely with the many and varied community groups throughout the shire to assist them to achieve positive outcomes. Having previously been an elected councillor at the Moira Shire, it gave me the unique perspective of understanding the processes and restraints placed on a small local government. During my time at the shire, I managed the Dairy Farmer Crisis following the slashing of milk prices, this included engaging Blaze Aid volunteers, establishing a one stop Dairy Support assistance and referral centre and networking with Health departments and other Support agencies. This was an extremely complex and challenging role which required extensive strategic planning, policy development and leadership. Before accepting the position at the Moira Shire I was employed by the Salvocare (Salvation Army) in the role of a Homelessness Support and Emergency Relief worker, this role involved case managing clients that were homeless or at risk of homelessness, these clients were assisted with housing applications, budgeting, crisis accommodation, medical referrals and food hampers. A large part of this role was establishing a large network of contacts within state government agencies, support agencies and health professionals. The emergency relief role entailed completing client assessments and distribution of assistance either by food/product or debit card. Maintaining adequate food supply required regular stocktaking and warehousing of perishable and non-perishable stock. Immediately after retiring from the Victoria Police, I commenced work with the Department of Justice in Shepparton as a Parole Officer, this role required the case management of Parolees to ensure that they were complicate with the conditions of their parole. Another part of this role was conducting court assessments to establish if offenders were suitable for court orders prior to sentencing. I later transferred to the Community Work team where my role was responsible for the placement of offenders who had been released on Community Based Orders from court. I was required to manage the liaison with individual worksites, placement of suitable offenders, ensuring compliance with the hours required and prosecution of those who failed to attend. I was case managing up to 176 offenders throughout the entire Hume Region. My main career spanned 32 years with the Victoria Police in both the urban and rural environment, during my career I performed the role of a general duties police officer, I have developed detailed briefs of evidence and presented them to Judges and Magistrates at all levels of Courts in Victoria and N.S.W. I also developed and ran the Police schools Involvement Program throughout the Moira shire, this involved lecturing on drug education, protective behaviours, road safety and breaking down the barriers. As a police officer I have dealt with people at their best and worst of times which has given me the skills to effectively communicate with irrational and distraught people to achieve a satisfactory outcome. I have developed my leadership and organisational skills from 28 years with the CFA. I have completed Fire-line Leadership, Crew Leader and have just stepped down from a Group Officer role; I am also qualified as a level 3 Logistics Officer. I have developed a high level of respect from various groups and organisations as I consistently perform and have always maintained my integrity.
