Jeremy Fresh

Hatch is one of the premier engineering consulting firms in the world, with over 10,000 employees globally. I worked there in the summer of 2023, & the following summer of 2024.

During my first summer at Hatch, I assisted a team working on a brownfield lithium mining facility. The facility was being reopened with the goal of increasing domestic production of lithium, in hopes of producing a significant amount of the metal to aid in sustainability efforts. Some of my duties in this role included the following:

• Wrote specification documents for a wide breadth of mechanical equipment to be issued for bid.
• Assisted in the creation and maintaining of an accurate and comprehensive mechanical equipment list.
• Performed material takeoffs for both mechanical equipment and piping.

In my second summer at Hatch, I worked on a bulk material handling facility, processing lead and zinc ore. The facility was proposed with the intent of strengthening the client's foothold in the region, while producing these metals that are integral to a low-carbon future in a responsible manner. I was encouraged to see I would spend another summer on a project where sustainability was at the center of the client's ambitions. Some of my experience in this role included:

• Was responsible for the project's platework, which included any steel chutes, ducts, bins, hoppers, and pump boxes, designed to handle all abrasive product.
• Produced specification documents and assisted in the proper record keeping of all equipment.
• Had to use Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to track process requirements, and ensure plate work was implemented in all required facets.
• Interfaced with bulk material handling experts in other offices to ensure proper scope and design.

Prepared and cooked a vast majority of dishes while maintaining a high standard of quality and customer service. This role really helped me understand how an effective teams conducts themselves in a work environment, and how I as an individual can have an impact on the outcome of our work.

Ensured patron safety at the Cobblestone community pool. Cleaned the pool & pool deck, kept a log of all residents at the pool, enforced pool & community rules, and tested water quality to provide a safe swimming environment.
