  • During my time as a Juvenile Justice Specialist Supervisor, I performed supervisory duties in the care, custody, training, And supervision of adjudicated youth. I provided on-the-job supervision for Juvenile Justice Specialists while they carried out their daily job duties throughout the daily activities of the adjudicated youth. As a Juvenile Justice Specialist Supervisor. I planned, directed, and supervised program activities, assisted in maintaining a safe and secure environment, communicated both orally and in writing, transported residents as required, maintained standards of attendance, and effectively supervised, trained, and developed employees, specifically Juvenile Justice Specialists. I met with the Juvenile Justice Specialists to ensure they were meeting work standards and answered any questions that they had. As a supervisor, if I saw something that needed to be addressed, I met with the employee, on an individual basis, face-to-face, to discuss the issue presented. and ensured that a safe and secure environment was maintained.
  • In addition to supervisory duties, I was still expected to complete those job duties of a Juvenile Justice Specialist. I assisted in maintaining a safe, secure and structured environment throughout the youth's daily activities, which include wake-up, personal hygiene, dietary, recreation, skill-building, treatment groups, and all other programmed activities. Also, when a youth presented a danger to themselves or others, a restrictive procedure was used to ensure the safety and security of the youth and their peers. I participated and assisted in implementing the adjudicated youth's treatment plan, in the Multi-Disciplinary Team process, and in the searches of the youth and visitors, facility grounds and buildings. Communication is essential, and the adjudicated youth's are observed in regards to any changes in personality, demeanor, which is then reported to their counselor and treatment team via e-mail, log entry, and face-to-face. Pertaining to communication, I reported any issues and/or anything of importance to staff shift-to-shift, completed reports, log entries, and forms to maintain accurate records of daily observations of the youth's progress in meeting program and individual goals

  • As a Juvenile Justice Specialist, I provided security by maintaining constant vigilance through the direct supervision of residents in order to provide a safe living environment, which includes the prevention of harmful behaviors by residents towards self or others. I ensured the safety and security of staff, residents and the community by preventing residents from absconding and searched residents and any and all areas for contraband. I supervised, instruct and guide residents in their daily activities such as personal hygiene, eating, recreating, performing work assignments and in their treatment and programmed activities in order to effectively meet their physical and emotional needs. I assisted in the implementation of the Master Case Planning System (MCPS) by attending staff meetings, facilitating and documenting resident behavior and participating in programming and daily activities in order to aid the residents in meeting their treatment goals. I communicated the status of both the residents and their physical environment through verbal and written notification according to established procedures in order to provide consistency of care. I maintained and assisted my fellow staff members in maintaining order and discipline by intervening with residents through active supervision, responding to emergencies and employing the least restrictive intervention technique in order to prevent escapes, control inappropriate behavior and maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • As a Juvenile Justice Specialist, I provided instruction and guidance to residents in developing (1) proper and acceptable behavior and (2) competencies in their daily activities to include housekeeping duties, work training programs and study habits. I also provided guidance in social and emotional growth by role modeling pro-social values and ideals in order to provide insight into more responsible behaviors to elicit a genuine desire to change. I escorted and supervised residents to and from various activities, clinics, appointments and visits on and off grounds. I applied the principles of Balanced and Restorative Justice (BARJ) and considered these principles during work situations as required.
