Reliable and highly motivated individual seeking a position with City of Los Angeles. Eager to transition my strong work ethic into public service, bringing a fast learning mindset and dedication to improving the local community.
As a road maintenance laborer I am responsible for many tasks that are specifically assigned for an area. I start off my work day with making sure I have all my proper PPE which consists of my hard hat, protective glasses, reflective vest, ear plugs, and gloves. My first task at the beginning of the work day is to make sure I have all equipment stocked in our assigned work vehicle dedicated to the type of work we will be doing for that day. This could consist of just street repair, clearing out foliage or a combination of the two. When working on street repairs with asphalt the process I follow is first cleaning out the area. Then, I apply the lubricant which is used to prevent the asphalt from sticking to the work surface and then I apply the hot asphalt mixture to the designated work space. The next process I follow is raking the asphalt and evenly distributing the mixture to the area. The final process is then using a manual tamp or vibrating plate to compact the mixture to ensure that the area is safe for pedestrians or vehicles to proceed. When dealing with overgrown vegetation the process I follow is getting all my equipment prepared such as making sure they are fueled up and in working condition. Then I begin to trim or cut overgrown vegetation with tools such as hedge trimmers, string trimmer, loppers, and square point shovels. The final step to this process is to clean up the area with tools such as backpack blowers, hand held blowers, rakes, brooms, scoop shovels, and trash cans.
