Operations Manager

  • In 2010, at the request of the organization's Founder and Board of Directors, accepted the position of Operations Manager of the Salute Military Golf Association, Inc, (SMGA) a 501(c)(3) non-profit. SMGA's mission is to work with US military veterans wounded during the military operation in Afghanistan and Iraq using the game of golf as a part of their recovery and rehab at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, first in Washington, DC. and then its new location in Bethesda, MD.
  • SMGA was founded in 2006, by my nephew, a PGA Professional Golfer. As the organization's first administrator, my responsibilities included organizing the staging of all SMGA activities, including its weekly training clinics, coordinating playing opportunities for SMGA participants, special events and facilitating corporate contributions.
  • A particular responsibility was facilitating the Founder's vision to expand the locations of SMGA programs. From its original location in Olney, MD, when I left SMGA and relocated to North Carolina, we had eight (8) additional active chapters throughout the continental US and Hawaii.

  • Intended to retire after leaving MSYSA, but accepted a part-time position with Neighbors United, a 501(c)(3) non-profit established by community members in Ward 6, of the District of Columbia to provide after school academic and recreational activities for area youth. Funding from grants obtained through a DC foundation.

  • From 1984 to 1997, was a volunteer with the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association, a 501(c)(3) non-profit large youth sports association, During this period, at various times, I managed nearly all MSYSA programs, activities and events and served on the Board of Directors and as several officers, culminating as the organization's President from 1993 to mid 1997.
  • Starting in 1991 was a member of a four member committee which organized and staged over a dozen major men's and women's international soccer matches in the District of Columbia and Maryland.
  • In 1992, established an annual multi-element event for MSYSA members which featured four separate areas of activities, including presentations, instruction, merchandise vendors and youth participation activities. Event attendance reached over 5,000.
  • In January 1998, was offered the paid position as MSYSA's first Executive Director, with responsibility to oversee all of the organization's activities, manage the financial affairs of the organization, including sponsorship acquisition, and new program development. Membership doubled to 55,000 registered players and over 6,000 coaches, with an annual budget exceeding $1.5 million.
