Jerry W. Cummins, Jr.

I retired in May of 2022 with twenty-seven years of experience as a classroom teacher and coach in the Texas Public Education system where I planned, directed and implemented new programs. I am currently in my third year as a classroom teacher/coach in Colorado. I am skilled in effective communication to reach a variety of audiences, training students with a variety of learning styles, managing people and understanding the value of teamwork.

• Have rebuilt struggling athletic programs from low level teams to highly competitive teams at the 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A Texas high school levels by identifying areas of needed improvement, developing a plan to address those needs and successfully implementing changes with new ideas while engaging the team to buy into a new system.
• Supervised assistant coaches providing defined roles utilizing their skills and talents to move towards a common goal of success for the program.
• Responsible for scheduling, transportation, purchasing, maintaining a budget, meal planning, hiring game officials, uniform/equipment inventory. These skills translate to being able to effectively multi-task, utilize time management skills to meet due dates, and to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Held coaching clinics to teach community league coaches philosophies and techniques used with the High School teams to ensure incoming athletes are fundamentally ready to enter our program. Comfortable with event planning, reaching out to the community to teach new information and building relationships between the community and an organization.
