Received training on various industrial machines within the sawmill to fill in for or work with other assigned operators depending on workplace circumstances. Reasons for rotating between machines could be for reasons such as filling in for another operators vacation day, sick day call ins, filling in to allow another operator to train-in on another machine or switching off on more physically demanding machines. Skills needed for the job included, maintaining acceptable standards for quality when dealing with lumber allowed to pass through assigned machine areas, remaining aware of job safety at all times when on the job, maintaining a safe and clean work environment at all times, and using effective communication with other team members. Additional skills learned on the job included identifying and performing pre-shift inspections on critical areas or points on machines such as belts, chains, photocells or "photo-eyes", etc. to prevent possible machine failure or any unnecessary downtime during working hours.
Performed mill cleaning and upkeep as well as other general tasks throughout the sawmill on operational running days and thorough cleaning around and under machine areas requiring lockout / tagout procedures on scheduled downtime days. Learned various tips and tricks while helping out and associating with more experienced and senior people, this being information and techniques related to operations, electrical and maintenance during this work history period. Held junior role for a longer period of time to finish enrollment in trades program at local college with employers consent.
Prepared and cooked dine-in and drive through orders to highest possible standards. Maintained a safe and clean work environment, cleaned and sanitized various pieces of kitchen and cookware, helped out front-line co-workers when necessary and filled in when necessary to help with team needs. Also worked any necessary overtime and volunteered for a variable schedule. Held role while starting college and deciding on a desired career path.
