Adult and Pediatric Perfusionist six month contract. During my time working here, I passed the second ABCP board exam for my CCP certification.
I pumped every pediatric case for three months straight while working here. The perfusion disposables containers and tubing size would need to be selected for each case dependent on the size of the patient. Two perfusionists are scheduled to a case. One perfusionist pumps the case, the other perfusionist does documentation, gives breaks, and gets supplies when needed. An open venous reservoir was used with a roller pump. Also, cardioplegia was given via roller pump.
Perfusionists covered five hospitals: Audobon Hospital, Jewish Hospital, University of Louisville Medical Center, Norton Hospital, and Baptist Hospital East.
Other responsibilities were Left Heart Bypass, Liver Transplants, Left Ventricular Assist Implantation and ECMO. Left Heart Bypass was done via an Open Venous Reservoir via Gravity using clamps to maintain volume and pressure to patient as
needed. ECMO used a closed circuit roller head pump. Thoratec was the oldest Left Ventricular Assist Device used. Liver Transplants always use a closed system with Centrifugal pump.
An open venous reservoir with roller head pump was used for melanoma. Chemotherapeutic drugs were given into the open reservoir system and patient's limb perfused with pharmaceuticals.
