The Compass School of Texas, newly established in Dallas since fall 2023, emphasizes a comprehensive academic approach inspired by a fusion of Reggio Emilia and classical learning principles. During my time at Compass, I have actively reflected on my role within the classroom and envisioned further growth as an educator. Embracing the Reggio Emilia philosophy, I strive for a dynamic partnership with my students, viewing myself as a co-learner and collaborator alongside them. I advocate for increased student autonomy and agency in their learning journey, encouraging them to exercise greater voice and choice in their educational experiences and methods of demonstrating learning.
At The Winston School, a small college preparatory institution specializing in students with diverse learning profiles, I embarked on my teaching journey amidst the challenges of the Covid-19 Pandemic during my first year. This unprecedented experience compelled me to cultivate adaptability, intentionality, and creativity in my approach to education. Despite the uncertainties, I not only persevered but flourished. Throughout my inaugural year at Winston, I delved deeply into fostering personal connections with my students. This environment provided constant reminders of my significant impact on them in tangible ways. It was within this intimate setting that I fully appreciated the advantages of small class sizes and personalized instruction. My Winston students taught me invaluable lessons: to find laughter amidst chaos, to embrace moments of calm, to approach each day with renewed optimism, and to recognize and honor the diverse paths each student navigates towards success.
George H.W. Bush Elementary, situated in Addison, TX, is the sole public school in the area, although officially part of Dallas ISD. This institution caters to a sizable student population, with 80% facing economic disadvantages, 60% categorized as at-risk, and 20% identified as homeless. In my inaugural year, I assumed responsibility for an overflow of students from five other first-grade sections, each exceeding 30 students. The subsequent year, I continued with my initial class, transitioning to the 2nd grade team. It was during this period that I discovered my passion for teaching students with diverse learning needs. As the designated Reading/ Language Arts/ Social Studies teacher for two sections, comprising 54 students, including 15 diagnosed with learning differences, I confronted the challenges that come with such an environment. Subsequently, I was entrusted with the role of 2nd Grade Team Lead, further deepening my commitment to supporting students in an urban Title 1 school setting.

Prior to the Covid19 pandemic, I regularly volunteerd for Paralyzed Veterans of America on both a local as well as national level to promote public awareness about our disabled servicemen and women and the matters that concern them the most. As a child of a disabled service connected veteran, the way we, as a country, provide support for our national heroes is a passion of mine.
