Dynamic artist and educator with a proven track record at the University of Evansville, adept at fostering innovative learning environments and enhancing student performance through individualized instruction. Skilled in diverse fine art techniques and student assessments, I excel in creating engaging class critiques and discussions, demonstrating a unique blend of creative teaching methodologies.
As a teacher I focus on instruction, experimentation and enthusiasm. I strive to create an optimal learning environment and community that encourages the collaboration of ideas. Differentiated instruction allows me to meet specific needs within each student and constantly provide them with a challenge. It has also been my pleasure to have the privilege of working with highly diverse groups of students. Understanding both the learning style of individual and the cultural diversity of the class/group has helped me to tailor effective instruction. Although a variety of learning styles are likely represented by learners in any large class/group setting, I have learned to accommodate individual preferences and establish a respect for differing perspectives. It is my responsibility as an instructor to provide students with demonstrations, readings and lectures about the basic elements of color and design. I believe that work at any level can be successful and produce ideas that are both intriguing and powerful. Getting students to think more like artists and see things in a different way is just as important as learning how to work with the medium. It is important to constantly expose students to other artists and their work. Analyzing a variety of other work through slides, articles and independent research gives student examples of what has been done and what is being done today. I remain flexible for students to pursue experimentation. This experimentation includes alternative mark making and mixed media. By providing individual attention to each student and their ideas I can help them make their work exciting and successful in an atmosphere where anything is possible. It is important for students to know that even failed experiments can lead to great things. The most important aspect of instructing artists is maintaining a level of enthusiasm. I believe that teachers, who share their 'passion' for teaching, and teach with enthusiasm and empathy are more likely to both connect with learners and increase performance. As a new teacher I have an edge on what it was like as a student and fresh new teaching methods to bring to the table. I have found that through visiting artists, engaging dialogue, group collaboration and an invitation into how I produce my own work, students stay energized about their accomplishments and goals.
