I am a mother to a 17-year-old son who has Down Syndrome. I have extensive knowledge and skills associated with advocacy. I am comfortable working with Physical therapists, Speech therapists, Occupational therapists etc. I have many hours advocating and problem-solving with insurance companies and Medicaid. I am comfortable in the disability community, I've spent many hours at Special Olympics and truly love our community. I've become very resourceful over the years and it has benefited my son greatly. I'm familiar with DD registration and re-qualification. I understand the ICAP assessment process and support plan process. I advocate for my son as part of his support team. I participate in IEP meetings and assist him to navigate the guardianship process. I've worked hours with service agencies and staff. I've gathered and reviewed medical records to ensure insurance claims are paid. I've used those same medical records to gain needed services and medical interventions. These specific skills are needed and consistently used as an agency administrator.
I provided respite for my husband under the Covid 19 allowances. I gained immense knowledge from this position. I was able to learn to write quality notes regarding my hours of respite. I also received an understanding of the inner workings from a provider standpoint. As an agency administrator, I am familiar with service provision regulations. I am proficient in documenting services in Therap and HIPPA Privacy Regulations. I've worked with the service agency to ensure services were delivered according to the Support Plan, in a person-centered manner.

Activated the phone tree upon request. I also procured funding from outside nonprofits to benefit the DS Network. I helped locate facilities and plan annual picnics etc. I was able to facilitate a large grant by the Palmer Elks. The donation helped pay for scholarships through The Alaska Down Syndrome Network. I also collaborated with Palmer Elks to use their facility for the AKDSN annual picnic. As an agency administrator, I would use these skills to collaborate with other entities to ensure services are provided. I would use my experience to ensure that the person receiving the services has a team approach. All service providers working together to provide a successful support plan.
