INTERNSHIPS

ADVANCE PROGRAM INTERNSHIP (Monroe County Community College):

  • A program that is a collaboration between Monroe Puente and Monroe County Community College that wants to ensure that all students in the community are prepared for the future.
  • The program offered four informational sessions on the college admission process which included a presentation from the coordinator, transportation for those who needed it, and food.
  • For four sessions, I helped with setting up the sessions and explained my experience with the college process. For example, college applications, figuring out what I wanted to major in, what resources there are to help with the process, scholarship information, FAFSA, etc.

LEADERSHIP

MCCC MULTICULTURAL STUDENT ASSOCIATION (Secretary):

  • Our association serves as a platform for culturally diverse students and allies to engage in meaningful discussions about relevant topics.
  • Through various events and activities, we aim to enhance cultural awareness and promote intercultural connections among students, staff, and the community.
  • As a recently started association at Monroe County Community College, and Secretary of the club, the board had a lot of structure that needed to be formed.
  • We were able to hold MSA's Spring Cultural Celebration during the Winter 2024 and 2025 semester which was an event that celebrates culture around the world. Meant to showcase various cultures through dances, practices, foods, and other activities.
  • During the fall semesters, we were able to hold two different field trips to museums to spread cultural awareness among students.

MCCC WRITING FELLOW PROGRAM (Writing Fellow):

  • The program focuses on helping all students at Monroe County Community College become better writers by providing an opportunity for close and regular contact with a supportive, yet critical audience.
  • This position requires a faculty recommendation to get into the program and Writing Fellows are required to take an advanced composition class to get trained and qualified to tutor students in writing.
  • As a Writing Fellow for two consecutive semesters, we have had regular appointments from students that help with the writing process. We will deal with "high-order" concerns and "low-order" concerns. By high-order concerns we mean such things as thesis or focus, appropriate voice or tone, organization and development of ideas. Low-order concerns would include such things as sentence structure, punctuation, usage and spelling.

MCCC STUDENT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM (Student Ambassador):

  • The mission of the Ambassadors is to provide MCCC with student leaders who will participate in an official capacity at special events throughout the year.
  • Student Ambassadors will promote the college by reaching out to prospective students, conducting campus tours, speaking to business leaders and civic groups, and by helping to welcome new students to campus.
  • As a Student Ambassador for three consecutive semesters, I have the opportunity to showcase my school spirit by talking to various leaders and students interested in Monroe County Community College.
  • I have participated in doing student panels for visiting students, giving campus tours to interested students, helping in various events held by the school such as the Alumni Association which helps raise funds for scholarships, and talking to various leaders about my experience at Monroe County Community College.
