I have had the extraordinary honor and privilege of educating young minds in Florida and Indiana for the past 20 years. I have been blessed to teach in 4 different districts and 5 different schools. Within these districts, I have been provided with professional development that has enriched my abilities and enlightened me on many new strategies and techniques.  I have taught kindergarten, third grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade. At each of these levels of development, I have had great success motivating students to do their best. I believe that in order to teach the child, you must put their hearts first. Children must feel that you are a safe person in order to open up and be able to learn. When they feel that you have their best interests in mind, they begin to learn not only the information that is being presented, but how to become successful life-long learners and effective members of society. I believe that building relationships with children is an integral part in order for students to begin to make connections and become life-long learners. Parents are also an important part of this process and I feel that it is important to keep in constant and direct communication with them in order to promote and foster student success. I also believe that collaborating with other teachers and administrators is essential to gain ideas on how to further the impact on student growth and development. As a result of these relationships, I have had success with student pass rates on the ILEARN test, wonderful parent and student relationships that formed into creating a family environment in the classroom, and active parent participation within the classroom. I have had the opportunity to be a grade level chair in kindergarten, team leader in third grade, and on multiple committees for Language Arts, Social Studies Vocabulary, common assessment creations, Project Based Learning, curriculum adoption for math and reading, and I have also been able to help others in their pursuits of development as I have been a presenter of math centers during professional development for my corporation. I have served on teacher selection committees and two different state representation boards. During the state representation board, I was involved in the meeting discussing our Title 1 involvement and ELL information. We were interviewed on how our interventions were conducted and how we have been working together to make sure our school is showing growth and parental connections. I have enjoyed being a member of the school PTA and being able to help the association raise money to support students and staff throughout the school year. In the last year, I was able to further increase my knowledge and understanding in the ILEARN writing process as an ILEARN Scorer.
