Works closely and effectively with management, crane leaders and crane operators. The job of a grinder operator is to grind work rolls down and remove any surface imperfections and underlying cracks and bruising within the rolls. The grinder operator works closely with a crane to locate work rolls that need ground down and load them into our machines while using hand signals and safety protocols to do so. The grinder operator then assess the roll (measuring, tapers etc) to ensure it’s good to be ground. Once finished the roll is scanned, reassessed and wrapped to be sent out. The grinder is also responsible for making and changing grinding Wheels as well as using proper LOCKOUT/TRYOUT procedures to ensure safety and keeping up to date with all JSHA AND QSOPS.
