• As a water operator, my main goal is to deliver a certain amount of water to farmers and irrigators through my assigned canal system. This also includes doing basic math to check the amount my gates are opened for. This helps prevent the loss of water from other farmers, and overfilling or draining the canal.
• I assist in trenching and installing new pipelines for our water pumps in order to operate correctly to try and use the least amount of water from the state.
• In my assigned canal system, I have to travel to various locations around the city and farmlands to analyze meter readings, as well as check if the pump's oils are good and the pump itself is functioning properly.
• During our slow season, we do a lot of maintenance work; this includes cement work, building new discharge pipes, building and fixing pipelines, help trench, maintenance pumps, and burning weeds around the canals.

As a Bay Leader you are the second hand of the supervisor in charge of the bay. You must be on top of things and know what wash the driver is getting on his/her semi truck. You have to communicate with your team to let them know what's left to do on the truck. If the supervisor goes on break or is absent, you have to take over for him. You have to communicate with your bay and let them know any specific things the driver asked for in his/wash. After the truck is washed you must check if anything is still dirty, if not then you proceed to calling out the National Rinse Procedure. As a Bay Leader you have frequent interactions with all kinds of customers, so you must have basic communication skills.
