- Currently I am a Respiratory Therapist at UnityPoint at Home. Transitioned to current role to broaden my experience in respiratory therapy. I educate patients on their CPAP/BiPAP machines and I also help patients with their home equipment such as oxygen, ventilators and pulse ox machines. I started my Respiratory Care career at UnityPoint Health Des Moines in 1991. At that time I worked with all patient populations from the NICU, PICU to the adult population including adult ICU/CCU. I rotated through the different patient care areas and the last 5 years of my career in 2018. I was a staff RT that worked alongside the ICU doctors and the trauma doctors as the weaning ventilator RT. I also worked in the ER/trauma area. I am CPR certified and up to date. I worked with ventilators, BiPAPs, balloon pumps, and other life saving machines along with doing nebulizer treatments and other lung therapies like meta neb/vest therapy. Coordinated shift assignments, enhancing staff support and workflow efficiency. Educated patients and families in cystic fibrosis clinic, promoting understanding and management of their condition. Educated children about asthma at schools through the American Lung Association and volunteered for Camp Superkids. Another job opportunity I have had in my time is a clinical instructor for the Respiratory Therapy Program at DMACC.
