Experienced Nurse with expanded knowledge in Pediatrics, Neonatology, Medical / Surgical, and Emergency for Adults and pediatrics as well as IV infusion and Dialysis looking for an opportunity to work as a Nurse Preceptor.
Throughout the years I have also had the opportunity to work as a preceptor, charge nurse, and team leader in resuscitations and traumas. I have valued all my clinical experiences as they have made me the nurse tat I am today
I have recently been working in education as a Nursing professor. I enjoy working with the students and sharing the gift of managing effective patient care with them.
It has been this reconnecting with patient care that spurs my desire to go back into patient care and utilize the years of skills that I have in a new way
As a Professor at Horry George Town Technical College, I work with Associate Degree Nurse ( ADN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), and Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) students help them to achieve their goals. I have taught in all three programs at different levels in the classroom and clinical experiences. I have recently restructured the CMA program as the curriculum and book selection were outdated and needed revision.
I also work with the Workforce Development program in assisting to provide education to individuals who are looking to achieve entry-level jobs in health care, but can not attend a traditional college.
In this position, I provide dialysis treatments for individuals in an outpatient setting. I regularly access ports, fistulas, and grafts of my patients to provide them the dialysis. I also provided education to my patients about diet, exercise, and fluid intake to help them achieve a healthy lifestyle.
As a Case Manager, for Corum Infusion treatments, I would do patient intakes, and establish long-term and short-term care plans for infusion therapy as well as manage direct patient care. Direct care included accessing PICC lines and or Midlines for long-term IV antibiotic treatments and blood draws, as well as establishing PIV for at-home IVIG treatments.
In this position, I also submitted the paperwork needed for patients to receive appropriate Insurance coverage.
While at Baystate Medical Center I worked in both Pediatric and Adult Emergency care. As a Level One trauma center in Springfield, Massachusetts the facility takes in patients from all over New England.
While working at Baystate I became trauma, triage, and Ultrasound-guided IV insertions certified in both Pediatric and Adult care as well as promoted to be in charge in the Pediatric Emergency Department.
I also was certified as a preceptor for new-hire nurses as well as paramedics and EMTs going through training.
In my last year at Baystate, I took a position at a smaller sister hospital in Palmer Massachusetts. This facility was being renovated and updated and needed staff to help with the patient load during that time. I enjoyed the transition to a smaller community hospital.
While working at UCONN I was able to seek opportunities in many departments to increase my nursing skills. My first position was that of a general nurse on a Medical - Surgical floor, where worked for six months before transferring to the NICU/ NBN
I worked in the NICU and NBN for many years, and over the years I acquired multiple certifications and trainings that allowed me to work with infants at all levels from micro-preemies to multiples and newborns.
After being in the NICU for many years I was approached to join the Maternal /Fetal Float Pool that was being developed. This position allowed me to be cross-trained in Labor and Delivery and obstetrics as well as continuing to work in the NICU/NBN.
My last position at UCONN was in outpatient Internal Medicine/Pediatrics in which I was the lead nurse in a five provider outpatient office. This position taught me the finer skills of outpatient care, insurance qualifications, long term / short term care goals and the importance of patent education and participation in care.
As a Pediatric office nurse, I was assigned with the task of evaluating any questionable patient that came through the door and may need more immediate or complex care. I would also carry a light patient schedule to advise on new infant questions and breastfeeding issues
In the phone triage position, I was trusted to determine the needs of the patients and determine if they needed to be seen in the office or sent to secondary care, such as out for x-rays or to the Emergency Room.
In this position, I worked with an OB/GYN medical provider assisting in perinatal care as well as general gynecological care. I assisted with helping to manage inventory and overall office needs.
The provider relocated to another state and the office was closed
