Medical Committee Volunteer

Hwarang Youth Foundation
06.2022 - Current
  • In Hwarang's Medical Committee, there were certain events like writing to senior nursing homes in different states, setting up covid testing booths while Covid-19 was strongly present. For future events, we are planning on hosting a blood drive.

Volunteer

Hwarang Youth Foundation

  • Within Hwarang, members helped clean the historical Comfort Women Statue located in Glendale, California. Every week, our dedication to clean the statue as a community never altered throughout the weeks. We made sure that the statue was clean and presentable. The Korean community in LA acknowledged our efforts on a local TV station.
  • Helped clean streets of Koreatown, Los Angeles to keep the community clean and safe. With the other members, I walked around and picked up tons of trash. Neighbors and people living unhoused on the street came up to us and thanked us. I learned just how bad the litter issue is despite how TV portrays LA as glamorous everywhere.
  • Marched around Koreatown with posters to help spread awareness about the war in Ukraine, and to hear out the public speakers' grievances. As we marched down the streets of KoreaTown, we raised our voices saying 'save Ukraine!'
  • In the Hwarang Youth Organization, I helped recycle trash, bottles, and cans to help improve the cleanliness of our city. The other members and I went to collect trash bags and went to a recycling center. Disposing trash as a group helped recycling faster.
  • Cleaned the environment of the park with the other members in my chapter called Healers. Specifically, tended to the paths of Fern Dell public park for people that love to hike or walk their dogs.
  • We printed pamphlets and informed people at metro stations about low-income fair programs in LA and provided resources for how to apply. We set up booths at stations to share our knowledge on how individuals can benefit from different types of programs and helped people check if they qualify for riding the metro for free.
  • This club is dedicated to recycling, and having the opportunity to connect with various types of members. We focus on the environment, such as talking about the global issues we face with trash, and the benefits of recycling. As the club's secretary, I have taken responsibility for collecting the club's monthly fund and collecting trash.
  • We had the opportunity to talk to former inmates about their past life in prison, and how that affected them moving forward in life. I had the opportunity to write a letter to a former prison inmate. In special circumstances, we had virtual interviews with them over Zoom.

Volunteer

SSM Health
12.2021 - 12.2021
  • Worked alongside healthcare professionals on the orthopedic trauma unit, providing patient care for individuals with complex injuries including gunshot wounds, accident-related trauma, and surgical wound management. Assisted in wound care, mobility support, and patient monitoring from 5:00 AM to 1:00 PM on a biweekly basis over the course of one month. Gained hands-on exposure to fast-paced trauma care, improved clinical judgment, and strengthened communication skills with both patients and interdisciplinary teams.
