Work History

Postdoctoral Research Scientist

University Of Texas Health Science At San Antonio
04.2019 - 01.2024
  • Designed and led pioneering research on osteocyte Connexin 43 (Cx43), delving into its novel paracrine effects within bone marrow niche.
  • Performed multi-color FACS followed by single-cell RNA sequencing in bone marrow niche, uncovering complicated crosstalk between hematopoietic cells and mesenchymal stromal cells.
  • Employed HPLC-MS and ELISA to identify metabolites released from osteocyte Cx43 Hemichannels, collecting and interpreting data, confirming function of the released prostaglandins as the most pivotal factors.
  • Introduced a proton fluorescence reporter into cells to show that mitochondrial Cx43 Hemichannels shield cells from oxidative stress by serving as H+ channels, reducing cell mortality. This provides key insights into cell defense mechanisms and positions Cx43 as a therapeutic target.
  • Collaborated on drug screening strategies to investigate the efficacy of 6 screened small molecule drugs targeting P2X7 receptor for metastatic osteosarcoma treatment. Validate one of the drugs as most efficient for therapeutic application.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills through authorship of 7 peer-reviewed papers and presentation of findings at 4 scientific conferences.

Ph.D. Candidate/Senior Research Fellow

Peking University
09.2012 - 03.2019
  • Utilized CRISPR-Cas9 shRNA system and live-cell imaging for high-throughput screening of key factors involved in transverse tubule biogenesis during heart development.
  • Identified two key factor proteins and associated pathway, serving as potential targets for preventing progression of heart failure.
  • Explored CALHM2's function in heart disease through a 3-lab (physiology, structural biology, and clinical medicine) collaboration, uncovering its cardioprotective properties through ROS reduction. This led to a significant 45% enhancement in cardiac performance.
  • Proficiently developed heart failure mouse model (TAC), demonstrating expertise in animal handling and in vivo experimental techniques.

Education

Ph.D. - Physiology

Peking University
Beijing, China
