Travel Nurse for COVID-units and Medical-Surgical unit.

• Deployment, COVID- 19 pandemic, April 2020 - July 2020
• Oversaw more than 200 individually quarantined Sailors from the USS Kidd who were infected with COVID-19 for symptom management, behavioral health, and coordination of patient transfers.

• Managed complete nursing care for up to 4 adult patients. Cared for various disease processes including internal medicine, oncology/hematology, chronic pain, and terminally-ill patients. One month into the travel nursing contract, was deployed to serve the COVID-19 infected Sailors.

• Facilitated various training to more than 40 RNs and ancillary staff members by inviting experts from multi-disciplinary teams to give pertinent in-service and guided unit orientation to new nurses.

• Managed complete nursing care for up to 6 complex adult patients while directing 1 -2 ancillary staff. Cared for various disease processes including internal medicine, oncology/hematology, and chronic pain.

• Deployed with the largest hospital ship to various countries in South East Asia including Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Cared for inpatient surgical patients such as thyroidectomy, cleft repair, and cosmetic surgery while supervising 3 - 4 Hospital Corpsmen. Conducted health education regarding preventive measures at different outpatient locations to local populations while utilizing translators.

• Supervised up to 4 RNs and 8 ancillary staff members while managing daily operations of the 18-bed inpatient ward. Oversaw and assigned appropriate admissions for the ward noting patient acuities including patients with a broad variety of chronic and acute disease processes: general surgery, neurosurgery, bariatric surgery, orthopedic surgery, and internal medicine.

• Provided complete inpatient care of up to 6 patients for obstetrical, neonatal, pediatric, psychiatric, and all ages of medical and surgical patients while directing 1 - 2 ancillary staff.

• Managed comprehensive nursing care for up to 6 complex internal medicine patients including but not-limited to end-stage renal disease, HIV/AIDS, uncontrolled hypertension and diabetes while directing 1 - 2 ancillary staff.

• Managed consumers' admission needs based on criteria. Dispatched counselors to ERs or urgent care centers to assess. Supervised 2 LPNs and 3 - 4 nursing assistants. Communicated with mental health/substance abuse counselors for plan of care. Assisted in 24 hour crisis line using therapeutic communication skills.

• Provided complete nursing care for up to 7 patients with 1 ancillary staff to patient population of complex cardiac patients and cardiac-cath candidates Monitored patients directly who are on telemetry for abnormal heart rhythm and rate.
