Through working with children, especially at a competitive level of swimming, I have learned how to tailor criticism to different personalities. Being on the swim team myself, I know how to motivate others to work hard through my own self-discipline and my everyday motto is never giving up, even if it seems impossible. Working with my mom in the kitchen has taught me how to be self-efficient and not rely on others to get the job done for you. When working with food, I've learned how to be sanitary and organized with produce, as well as how to clean certain areas of the kitchen.
Since I am a student involved in extracurricular activities, such as NHS and competitive swimming, I have not worked a typical part-time job before. However, my mother runs her own bakeshop at home, so I wash her dishes and bake some goods that she sells as well. My mom has had her own at-home business for eight years now, and all that time, I have been helping her with the smallest chores I could do, like cracking eggs. Alongside that, I've helped my coaches at my swim team teach little kids who are 12 and under the different strokes in swimming. I've done this job for about three to five years now, and it's been a rewarding experience working with the children.
