I am a second year respiratory care student on track to graduate in May of 2026. I started working at a level 1 trauma center in St.Louis Missouri as an "RCA"- respiratory care assistant, in my first semester of the program in 2024. This job permits me to work with equipment from nebulizers to mechanical ventilation. Setting up and maintaining the equipment helped me get familiar with all the different pieces of the machines, and how to troubleshoot if there was an error during set up. Along with managing and monitoring equipment, the RCA position allows me to go with an RRT and have hands on experience with patients. Working at a trauma 1 hospital, allows me to have exposure with supervision of an RRT ranging from the ED, to general floors, and the many ICU's and trauma floors Barnes-Jewish offers. Working as a student during my program has given me many opportunities to expand my knowledge and prepare me for being the best RRT I can be.
