Volunteerism

  • May 2023: In May 2023, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to Ghana as part of a Public Health Brigade with Global Brigades. Our journey began in Accra, where we were introduced to Ghanaian culture, history, and the country’s public health landscape. From there, we traveled to the rural village of Ekumpoano, where we worked alongside local community members to support sustainable health initiatives. Throughout the week, we helped construct bio-digesters—septic systems designed to improve sanitation—and led educational workshops focused on hygiene and disease prevention. This hands-on experience not only deepened my understanding of global health challenges but also strengthened my commitment to service and community empowerment. The warmth and resilience of the Ghanaian people made a lasting impression, and I returned home with a renewed sense of purpose and a global perspective on public health.
  • March 2025: In 2025, I had the meaningful opportunity to support this year’s Domestic Violence Symposium, an event dedicated to raising awareness, fostering education, and promoting healing for survivors and communities impacted by domestic violence. As a volunteer, I assisted with checkig in attendees, engaging with attendees, and helped create a welcoming space for dialogue and empowerment. Being part of this important initiative allowed me to contribute to a cause I deeply care about and connect with advocates, survivors, and professionals committed to ending domestic violence. It was an inspiring experience that reaffirmed the power of community, education, and compassion in driving change.
  • April 2025: In April 2025, I had the privilege of attending this year’s April Food Day—an annual event focused on combating food insecurity and supporting local families in need. As a volunteer, I assisted with assembling food boxes and distributing essential items to community members. The event brought together students, faculty, staff, and local organizations in a powerful demonstration of compassion and collective action. Being part of April Food Day was a humbling and rewarding experience that underscored the importance of service and the impact we can make when we come together to support one another.
  • May 2025: This May, I will return to Ghana with Global Brigades as part of a Public Health Brigade. Building on my 2023 experience, I’ll work alongside volunteers and local residents in the village of Ekumpoano to support sanitation initiatives, including the construction of bio-digesters and hygiene education workshops. We’ll begin in Accra, engaging with Ghanaian culture before heading to the community site. I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue this important work and deepen my commitment to global service and health equity.
