As a hiking guide and deckhand, I had the opportunity to help people from diverse backgrounds explore the outdoors in a safe and educational way. My responsibilities included prepping and transporting our gear, helping guests enter and exit the boat, properly assisting our boat captain, and leading a large group of people through a rainforest hike on Betton Island. Being prepared was crucial for this job as you did not have access to service and often dealt with adverse weather. It was also very important to be self-sufficient as you are typically alone and are responsible for the safety of guests with varying ages and skill levels.

North Lime Coffee & Donuts was a very rewarding job as I got to experience putting smiles on all of our customers faces when they came in to get a sweet treat. I was given a lot of creative freedom when it came to designing new donut flavors and drinks and would always cater to whatever our customers preferences were. Though this job was very fun, it required a lot of self-discipline. On an average day I would need to be at work at 3 in the morning. While I worked here, I was also employed at J&H Outdoors or Malone's and would often work both on the same day. I was able to balance both of these schedules successfully and always showed up on time.

While working at J&H Outdoors I have been given lots of opportunities for growth. I was quickly promoted from a sales associate to a buyer and team lead within three months of employment. My daily tasks often include educating others about safety in the outdoors whether it is a scout going camping for the first time or a thru-hiker attempting the Pacific Crest Trail. This could span anywhere from fitting someone for a harness, teaching how to use an outdoor stove, or finding the perfect pair of shoes for their adventure. As a team lead some of my responsibilities include opening and closing the store, maintaining positive moral throughout the staff while still completing all tasks necessary, and diffusing any conflict that may arise by finding the best solution for everyone involved. As a buyer I have the responsibility to make sure our shelves are stocked while getting our customers the best price possible.

As a server assistant, my responsibilities included greeting our guests in a timely manner, ensuring all of their needs were met during their stay, and bussing their table as soon as they left for a quick turn-around. This job was demanding as it was necessary to constantly monitor the status of the tables and required me to regularly balance large trays of food and dishes in high-traffic areas, while still providing an inviting atmosphere to the guests. This job also required a flexible schedule as it was often unpredictable what time my shift would be over.
