I am an accomplished Administrator within long-term care. While my wife attended Medical School I relocated several times to follow her. This allowed me to work in a wide range of settings. In all of these settings I have been able to lead the teams to excellent clinical and financial improvements. Almost all of these settings have also required me to work extensively in the area of labor management, as nearly all were unionized environments. My background as a high school teacher and head coach also give me an outstanding set of interpersonal and leadership skills.
My wife grew up in Luverne, MN, worked at the Veterans Home throughout high school and college, her mother worked there, her grandmother was a resident, and my wife wants to practice as a physician in the community, so we are extremely excited about the possibility of being able to return to the community.
I served as the Executive Director / Administrator at Parkview Manor, a 37 bed nursing home in Ellsworth, MN, where I oversaw management of all daily operations. During my time at Parkview Manor I am proud of several accomplishments:
• Upon taking the job the facility was operating at a $90,000 loss each month, by the end of my tenure we reported a profit in excess of $25,000 in 6 of 7 months for which financials had been completed with the one outlier being being a month where the facility made substantial capital expenditures in updating equipment and grounds.
• The facility Census was 19 upon taking the position and grew to 30 residents.
• I oversaw transitions to new accounting systems, payroll systems, time clock systems, and insurance authorizations processes. We also successfully brought our accounting functions and private pay billing back in-house, submitted previously neglected cost reports and PBJ reports, and brought the facility back into substantial compliance per CMS guidelines
Oversaw overall management of daily operations across a 44-bed skilled nursing facility and a 41-bed assisted living facility including referrals and admissions, financial performance, recruitment, bed allocation, marketing, scheduling, inventory management, compliance with state & federal regulations, quality assurance & performance improvement, labor management
• COVID Strategy: Worked closely with Regional Director of Nursing to oversee COVID testing & infection control practices in multiple locations across northern Minnesota
• Creation of organizational policy for pandemic preparedness.
• Supported the implementation of organizational expense reduction project through coordination with an external consulting firm.
• Representation at administrative team meetings.
• Oversaw Covid-19 screening and prevention policies and procedures
• Planning, creation and implementation of legally binding Individualized Education Plans while maintaining compliance with state and federal law.
• Development and delivery of individualized instruction to students with a wide range of disabilities.
• Oversaw compliance with legal regulations related to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
• Management of Medicare billing for educational and instructional-related medical expenses

I love to spend time with my wife when she gets a little time off. I also enjoy home renovation projects, hunting with my two golden retrievers (Walter and Winston), exercising, and traveling. I love coaching, having coached college football at Northwestern, and was the Head Varsity Football Coach at Tipton High School as well as various other coaching experiences and love the impact it allows me to make on others.
