As a Head Coach of the middlesex water polo
teams, I was in charge of three separate age groups of kids ranging from 8 years old to 16 years old. Each group of kids carried a variety of challenges to overcome like helping kids get along with each other and teaching kids who have never played water polo the initial rules and body movements underwater. Water polo is an incredibly hard sport to start to learn, especially at a young age as most kids find it hard to swim around for a long period of time. I learned a lot from the kids I coached and got to better understand how younger kids minds work when learning, listening and adapting to a new sport.
As a life guard I was apart of a team that was in charge of all the children’s safety. We conducted regular safety drills to ensure each guard knew all the rules of the pool/beach and how to perform a safe rescue. We also maintained the pool and beach areas cleanliness and made sure it looked attractive and comfortable for the guests. I learned how to manage the spaces around the club and get into a good routine where we always made everything look as if it was brand new and not used. I also learned how to address members of the club and speak respectively to them.
