Duties as craft engineer: Responsible for all aspects of the mechanical operation of a 130 foot beach assault craft
My responsibilities were the safe operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair or overhaul of such systems as; diesel propulsion, electric generators, potable water, jacket water, fuel, oil, hydraulic, air, HVAC, steering, and waste containment as well as all of the associated pumps, valves, piping, winches, etc
Being the primary engineer responsible for the maintenance, I am thoroughly familiar with the lock-out and tag-out procedures used during maintenance to prevent injury and/or equipment damage as well as tool usage and safety
I served on the command diesel inspection team, responsible for the inspection and repair or overhaul of all assault craft
I was by far the most junior selected for this team based on my abilities and knowledge of the crafts systems
I served as a command representative while my craft was in the shipyard for its total overhaul
During this time I supervised all aspects of the mechanical refitting of the crafts systems, and witnessed and approved testing done by shipyard personnel resulting in a successful overhaul with minimal down time.
