HVAC-R, Plumber, Maintenance

Delaware North at Yosemite
05.2001 - 07.2007

General Hotel Maintenance, Plumber, and HVAC-R tech positions held from 2001-2007.

  • In a six-year period, I worked from being an entry level maintenance technician to HVAC/refrigeration foreman, the highest hourly position in Delaware North at Yosemite. Having a background in automotive work, I transitioned to hotel maintenance. I bought code books, researched online, and was mentored by our HVAC, Plumbing, Carpentry, Electrical, and Locksmith Foremen.
  • For about 2 years, I was the sole weekend employee at our central maintenance facility, responsible for the operation and repair of 27 steam and hot water boiler heating systems, and the response to service requests in all trades at all profit generating facilities outside of hotels, including restaurants, grocery stores, gift shops, as well as hundreds of employee housing units from tent cabins to 3-bedroom homes throughout Yosemite. I was responsible for hotel maintenance tasks that were beyond the scope of hotel maintenance staff.
  • Spent 3 of these years as a Plumber, maintaining and repairing boilers from 400K btuh to 150 HP, maintaining water, steam, sewer, and gas distribution, appliances and fixtures at commercial kitchens from 5-star hotels to burger joints, hotel rooms and other public facing facilities, employee housing, and administrative facilities. I sought to solve problems vs. accommodating them, and developed a reputation for diligence and technical expertise that drove my career progression with Delaware North and later with the National Park Service.
  • Performed start-up and shut-down of seasonal lodging, food service, and housing facilities in accessible and remote locations. Maintained inventory of anticipated repair parts.
  • Created an electronic inventory of over 100 backflow prevention devices, scheduled and performed annual testing, troubleshooting, and repair. Standardized our devices through attrition to reduce inventory of repair parts.
