A Brief Biography from 1972 to the Present & My Artistic Positioning & Goals as an Artist Prior to Marine Corps ICT (Infantry Combat Training) my heart had been remedied by a desire to photograph as a war correspondent during the Vietnam War. This passion never evolved. During this phase of training, I photographed snapshots of Marines, instead. I journeyed to other mediums throughout my lifetime. During my high school days, I considered a career in art yet with the vast assortment of mediums how does one choose? Later in life I received opportunities with my photographic endeavors and as a self-taught photographer had an intuitive feel balancing vision, storytelling, and photojournalism. Yet, while in college I discovered even more passions. I sensed I would be a professional academic, albeit my creative self would not remain quiet. And so, the journey began. as I wish to take a moment to say during my late teens and twenties trauma crept in through a door I had not anticipated. Traveling back to 1972 as a US Marine, I was struck by a spent M-60 cartridge targeting my cervical spine rendering nothing more than permanent nerve damage to the spine. My utility shirt soaked with blood I was not offered a Huey to transport me to the naval hospital at Camp Lejeune. I began to suspect this incident was a friendly fire ambush initiated by the individual who sexually assaulted several other Marines in the squad bay as we were grabbing some shuteye. I was the only Marine who fought him back. My present thought is he wanted to silence me from disclosing to Battalion these two occurrences. I remained angry from the assault but had yet to undergo further training the next day and when the three consecutive explosive blasts hit me, I received two whiplashes forcing my head back violently and the third was when the cartridge struck my spine. I remained in a daze of mental instability for years and no one back home knew what happened. I began artistically with ancient spiritual poetry by women. I became earnestly enthused by the power of word originating from wise women from around the world in distant lands. Their wisdom touched my heart and soul. This experience of reading, then writing this poetry began to reduce the stress from catastrophic and traumatic experiences past till the present. And yet upon studying Religious Studies and Humanities in college, I recall a paper I researched academically and spiritually regarding Bernini’s sculptured marble statue the Ecstasy of Teresa alongside a correlation between Teresa and Psyche. This was relational to an experience of divine holiness I witnessed that really tired my soul. I explored other mediums as carving wood, sculpture, pen & ink, calligraphy and illumination, and photography. I was also a CAD designer for some time that helps to facilitate healing and productivity.
