Work History

Electrical Technician

Local 52 Motion Picture Mechanic IATSE
12.1998 - Current

Hello,

I started as a musician when I was 16 years old, in charge of the lighting, sound and logistics for the bands I played with.

I became a A1, A2 in the1990s

Working for various Sound reinforcement companies and Mobile Recording truck in the tri state area and beyond.

Doing simulcasts, concerts, video shoots, recording sessions with well known artists.

In my late 20's I secured touring work with 2 International musical acts handling the advance work and traveling the US and abroad to various venues setting up and wrapping large stage concerts as well as stage managing the shows.

During this time I also traveled working Corporate shows, in the sound, lighting, video, carpentry departments.

I worked as a Production Manager at a PAC in West Hampton Beach, for 3 years mid 2000s.

A small stage with a line set rigging.

Dealing with artist needs including fulfilling rider request, logistics, lighting, sound, set pieces and renting musical gear.

I then became a card holder in the Electric dept of local 52 motion picture mechanics in December 1998.

My titles: Gaffer, Rigging Gaffer, Best boy, lighting board op and Lamp op

My duties include:

Lighting movie sets, powering, rigging lights, handling lighting cues and dimmer operations

Powering movie sets ie

Tie in into existing power and or using generator power.

From running heavy cable 4ot from 1400 amp generators. down to 110v monitors in video village.

Rigging

Hanging lighting fixtures and cabling from truss, or pipe in and around sets including rigging cars for running shots, lifts, for outdoor applications.

As a Gaffer my responsibilities were to run the set while shooting, scout locations with production to come up with a lighting plan and cable runs.

As Best Boy my responsibilities are to secure a crew, fill out timecards, production requests, ordering gear and expendables,

putting out fires (sometime literally).

Dimmer board Operator

Programming lighting consoles to coincide with the lighting plan

making maps for the Gaffer.

As a house (shop) electric

I rewire household fixtures using LED as per art department, gaffer, and director of photography. Replace existing lighting on location, fans, exit signs, light switches to dimmers.

Build outlets and lighting gags to be used for shooting.

Home studio

I own professional audio gear and operate a small studio called Big John's Garage. Over the years I have recorded mixed, mastered, many records, feature films, and commercials.

ADR, Voiceover, musical cues etc...
