Within my 12yrs at US STEEL I have worked in several departments. I started off in the Mason Department installing brick/refractory throughout the entire mill, pour concrete and various other masonry involved jobs. Operated forklifts up to 30k capacity to move material. Operated over head cranes to bring material up to upper levels of mill & to lower into sub laddles, operated skid steers to level ground to pour concrete. After two years I was enrolled in their electrical learner program. After two years I rated out of their electrical program. In my twelve years of being in various electrical departments I spent time in the line crew troubleshooting under ground cable faults. Pulling and or repairing underground cables. Operated digger derrick trucks to use in pulling under ground cables & setting new electrical poles which involved using a power auger, winches to pull cable and a tamper to compact ground, install and or repair roadway lighting, often times pulling a reel trailer. Used various size trucks for snow plowing & used truck mounted salt spreaders. High voltage cable splices, repairing or installing new bus work, installing and or repairing switch gear in substations, installation of new GCB's in substations. Racking out high & low voltage breakers wearing the appropriate PPE. Collect oil samples from transformers & OCB's for testing. Assisted Tech crew in relay calibrations, doble testing of transformers and GCB's. Wiring and installation of new GCB's. Assist in SEL upgrade projects, rectifier maintenance. Spent several months in crane repair where we did all mainteance on 250vdc & 480vac overhead cranes. Also spent time in Field Wire where we upgraded shop and office lighting to LED lighting, replace emergency lights, install new circuits and run various sizes of rigid conduit and other various low voltage projects often times operating manlifts.
I've spent the past several months involved in safety inspecting harnesses, retractables, lanyards and anything else involving fall hazard equipment. Organized high & low voltage glove testing along with all testing & inspection of rescue hooks, hasting test sticks and grip-all sticks etc.
Experience with using various power tools from jack hammers, hammer drills, impacts, drill drivers and many other hand tools & testing devices. Used shop equipment from drill presses, band saws, piranha iron worker, grinders, used both stick & mig welders, rigid pipe benders & threading machines.
I'm US STEEL qualified to operate manlifts, digger/derrick trucks, forklifts and overhead cranes.
For over 16yrs I worked as a general laborer out of local 81 laborers union hall. Over the years I worked for various companies performing general laborer tasks. I labored for bricklayers where I operated Lull & Pettibone telehandlers from 6K to 10k capacity, used bucket attachments & grout hog attachments, mixed mortar & grout with both gas & electric mixers, used demo saws & table saws, hammer drills, built various types of scaffolding. Poured & pumped concrete, ran plate & rolling compactors, operated skid steers to level ground & move forms, auger attachment to drill holes in the ground. General job cleanup. Was certified to remove asbestos. Operated jack hammers, chipping guns and other types of hand tools. Operated gunite machines & have sprayed refractory coatings. Used oxy acetylene torch for demo work. Operated & setup air powered scaffolding inside of vessels at the mills. Setup & maintain pumps for water removal. Operated ride on floor sweepers. Drove plow trucks.
My first real job out of highschool I worked for Heckett/Multiserv. Slag processing facility located within the old LTV STEEL. Daily routine involved operating slag processing plant. I was involved in plant mainteance & repairs as needed. Operated Euclid R35 & R50 dump trucks, water trucks, front end loaders, skidsteers. Used chipping guns to clean out hoppers & water blasting to clean in & around conveyors. Assisted with belt changes on conveyors, replacement of grating in shakers. Power wash & clean equipment & general cleanup of shop.
