• Responsible for the care, custody and control of inmate population.
• Booking Officer responsible for intakes and releases of inmates. Responsibilities include: working with all law enforcement agencies within Rockingham County, fingerprinting, interviewing, mandatory searches of inmates and determination of housing assignments based on charges and overall behavior.
• Responsible for supervising inmate housing units.
• Provide a safe environment by enforcing policy and procedures.
• Act as ex officio as appointed, with general police powers including arrests within the Jail, or during transports.
• Maintain inmate safety through vigilant monitoring of behavior and swift intervention during conflicts.
• Successful reduction of instances of contraband by thoroughly searching inmates, cells, and common areas.
• Assisted in the training of new correctional officers, providing guidance on best practices and procedures.
• Prepare, process and maintain forms, reports, logs, records, and activity journals.
• Assist with investigations of alleged inmate misconduct, gathering evidence and testimonies to determine appropriate disciplinary actions.
• Handle emergency situations calmly under pressure, utilizing crisis intervention techniques to maintain order within the facility.
• Maintain control during critical incidents by effectively utilizing de-escalation techniques and coordinating with additional emergency response teams when necessary.
• Conduct inmate transports for medical and facility transfers.

Responsible for road maintenance, including snow plowing and equipment operation (plow/wing plow, sander, backhoe, snow blower), loading trucks, brush removal, digging ditches and culvert maintenance.
