Janitorial Maintenance
Walmart
10.2022 - 07.2023
Trained and mentored new staff on cleaning and safety protocols. Then followed up later days to insure proper adoption of training.
Addressed management feedback to maximize their satisfaction, and exceed their expectations.
Operated scrubbing machine in restrooms to sanitize, clean and rinse sinks, floors and toilets.
Operated compactor to collect and compress trash from about 20 points within and outside store.
Occasionally (at direction of management), cleaned milk and dairy refrigerated rooms. To efficiently do it (both time and effectiveness), Developed list of list of equipment and supplies to use.
As time permitted, frequently exceeded tasks to achieve "psychic pay" of job satisfaction for job well done.
Collaborated with lower and mid level management to develop few long term job specific tasks for our department.
Our department, as well as stockers, participated in "zoning" for first 1 1/4 hrs in various departments of store, every night. Zoning assured products were in proper places determined by both their "sku" product identifiers, and their computerized data base locations.
As example of my positive desire to help company, for last night there, Brought in cobalt drill bit bought specially to help install new toilet paper dispenser. Had offered to do that first few days there (based on 5 1/2 years experience previous job), but was refused to by mid level manager because she wanted to have assigned repairer do it instead. One I installed was one of 2 brought to her attention, he didn't fix 9 months earlier.

Janitorial Maintenance
Faribault Foods
03.2015 - 02.2021
1st 6 months or so worked in production. because of speed and complexity of production changeovers, [and a few errors on my part] management suggested I transfer to janitorial maintenance position instead.
1st winter on the job, took initiative to shovel snow on "industrial" (really older part of new building complex) building. Did that on own initiative because a worker on previous shift had slipped on snow, causing permanent disability. After 1st winter, size of both plant (1 million square feet), plus 2 large size parking lots, management tasked snow removal to 2 other men. Before that however, besides manual shoveling at 1st, management got us a snow thrower and also a snow brushing machine, which I used both until snow removal task was assigned to others. Because of disability injury employee above, and my own severe bone bruise after slip on ice at Pine Tech, I am happy to remove snow ANYTIME AND AS LONG AS NECESSARY.
Normal janitorial maintenance included typical bathroom cleaning using different chemicals and replacement of towels and toilet paper.
Occasionally cleaned several break rooms with different chemicals for tables. When cleaning main break room, I also cleaned, refilled and maintained coffee maker.
Because of varied experiences, management appointed me to lead position when I worked afternoon shift.
Because of the huge 1 million square foot size of the manufacturing building, and the cost of machine downtime, regular maintenance never had time to install or maintain our towel and toilet paper dispensers. Because no one else in our department had the desire, I took it upon myself to both install & maintain them with my own tool kit brought from home.
Because my job occasionally involved cleaning management support offices, and my performance doing that, management chose me of all janitorial staff for corporate management offices, restrooms and break room. This happened after another lead person associate was fired for stealing. They chose me because of the criticality of both attention to detail cleaning, and utmost trustworthiness. (They had considered using outside cleaning service for that).
Operated floor buffer and walk behind buffer
Dislocated Worker Training
Placed By Nestle After Plant Closure
09.2012 - 02.2015
Attended Pine Technical and Community College to get training in both gun smithing and machinist. I wanted guns smithing as an entrepreneurial business assuming I could learn the trade as I had self taught car repair. Even though having a second set of tools at apartment, I could not do job timely enough to make money at it. Also, a key course welding and metallurgy, required a pass ON EVERY welding method of about 12 means for BOTH edge welding AND perpendicular joints. You had to pass ON ALL methods or you got no credit at all. I failed on only on TIG welding. Crucial was that someone offered me their sample to use for approval, but my integrity refused to cheat to pass course.
For machining portion of
curriculum, I was depending on my years of experience in CNC milling operations (no set up experience), but lots of experience measuring parts with my tools and adjusting tooling and programs to keep parts in tolerance per blueprint specifications. Where I fell short there was confusion on CNC lathes, and especially CAD CAM programming and operation. The most confusing by far of any software I've ever tried. After the metallurgy loss, I was removed from dislocated worker program, and took out student loans to try to stay in at least machining program to no avail.
Liquids Production Line Worker
Novartis Then Nestle After Plant Sale
04.2006 - 05.2012
Packaged and labeled products using automated equipment. Including both canned and bottled products. Paid attention to critical control points, testing and recording test results while adjusting machines as necessary.
Collaborated with other production workers to achieve smooth running of production line.
Boxed, labeled, and transported (with sit down fork lift only, NOT standing fork lift) items to support assembly operations. Computer data input on finished pallets.
Followed instructions to make products in line with customer specifications.
Of profound significance: there were only 2 ways to be hired there either by Novartis at 1st, or Nestle later. 1) You either applied directly for a position with experience and resume, and 90 days probation OR 2) Overwhelming majority of workers went through an employment agency and realistically never had a chance to be hired on regular, but remained as permanent temporary agency employees. Of 6 years there, about 200 temporary employees worked there. Only 6 were hired on as Novartis or Nestle employees- I was one of those 6, and of 6, only 3 made it past 90 day probationary period, also.
When Nestle planned to close plant, they were very generous. Because of plant size, they knew it would take a while to move the equipment etc. They had a good work force, and wanted to keep things smooth until then, They gave us about a year warning (turned out to be about 1 year and 4 months). And if work force stay on, and continue good operations, we were offered either a transfer to another Nestle plant (Eau Clare Wisc.), or any other Nestle plant in the U.S., OR a generous severance package AND Nestle Corporation paid for dislocated worker training, provided we stayed with company in good standing till closure of our respective lines. I chose the latter, because I didn't want to move there further from my daughter's family in Aitkin, Mn.
