John Nevers

Summary

I was born and raised in NJ and frequently spent time on the Jersey shore where fishing/boating was a hobby of mine, and eventually grew into a career once my family and I moved to FL six years ago. Since then I have gradually familiarized myself with the marine industry from working at marinas, to fishing commercially and competitively, and have put most of my collective hours and sea time into charter fishing.

Work History

Yard Worker

Tuppen's Marine and Tackle
01.2021 - 08.2021

Tuppen's is a marine tackle store/boat dealer as well as a boatyard/service center for Yamaha outboard motors. Most of my duties were in the yard where I operated a forklift to transport boats and trailers across the yard to and from the service bays and assisting in loading and unloading boats, trailers, and other supplies. Most importantly I cleaned and detailed boats that had been serviced, while also maintaining cleanliness and organization of the yard and the warehouse.

Deckhand

Bulldog Fishing Charters
03.2021 - Current

This boat (35' Downeast) was mainly focused on bottom/drift fishing but we also exercised trolling and live bait/kite fishing which we offered on private charters. I have worked for this charter business for the last 4-5 years as a deckhand, and since receiving my captain credentials last year I just recently began to captain my boss' second boat (32' Seavee) which he got earlier this year. Prior to this job I had 1-2 years experience with working on boats and since then I have obtained many fishing/people skills from this business, as well as maintaining the cleanliness and basic operations of the vessel.

Deckhand

Cast In Place Fishing
05.2025 - 05.2025

I had the opportunity to fish/mate on "Cast in place" (43' MagBay) a handful of times this past spring, this included a few kite fishing trips and a one week excursion to Bimini Bahamas and Cape Cod Bay MA. This was my first taste of working on a private vessel and traveling to either of those places. In the bahamas we chunked/live baited for tunas for 2-3 days and also attempted to dredge fish for marlin which was a first for me. From there we returned to Jupiter FL and were up early the next morning to transport the vessel to Cape Cod Bay MA which we managed in 3 days time.
