Supervisory Information Specialist, GS-13

  • Serve as Assistant Section Head in the Copyright Information Section, Office of Public Information and Education
  • Supervises and provides guidance, leadership, and training to lower level staff in the Section
  • Write evaluations and recommend areas for staff development
  • Work with Employee Relations and ASO to assist with staff issues in the areas of conduct, performance, and evaluation. Implement counseling memos as needed and directed, meet with staff regarding issues. Report and document problems in effort to work towards staff improvement.
  • Review staff emails, spot check phone inquiries from the public, schedule front desk assignments, and handle the most difficult information requests as well as difficult patrons.
  • Monitor Information Specialists and Technicians work in real time. Assist staff in real time when needed, and use staff interactions as opportunities for one on one training and development.
  • Submit office reports and other data as assigned by Section Head.
  • As Acting Section Head, submit weekly and bi-weekly reports needed for PIE Data collection for internal use to improve office services, as well as for use in reports that are sent to Register and later are part of USCO Annual Report.
  • Review and Certify staff work hours using Web-TA. Decide on leave and time earned requests. Work individually with staff on day to day scheduling. Have deep understanding of LCRs in order to communicate on PIO staff application of LCRs on Work Hours, Telework policies, and other LCRs related to Hours of Operation.
  • Lead Section Monthly Meeting. Create agenda, Set calendar and invites, as well as invites to guests and special presenters. Leverage diversity by giving staff opportunities to take lead during portions of meeting, such as staff led committee reports and updates for committee they represent the PIO or committee they chair.
  • Independently Created Daily Work Teams with PIO staff at all levels, to help not only handle onsite functions for the office, but also to create closer bonds and relationships among staff. Layers of Teamwork and layering relationship building in a largely remote work environment.
  • Oversee on-board training to Technicians, Information Specialist and Senior Information Specialist. Liaise with Legal Team to create legal foundations in training. Work with trainers to develop training program. Meet with trainers regularly to ensure milestones are met. Report to management current personnel status with regards to hiring, on-boarding and training new staff.
  • Handle all congressional requests submitted to PIO, and difficult and/or complex requests from other areas of the Copyright Office
  • Develop and implement outreach activities designed to increase public education and awareness of the Copyright Office and its services
  • Assists in the scheduling of, and conducts Office tours for both national and international professional visitors
  • Trains staff so they can participate as subject matter experts in PIE outreach activities such as LC Teachers Forum, NBF, USCO Exhibit, LC and USCO New Staff Orientation. Liaise with Outreach coordinator to ensure PIO staff we successful, and provide additional professional development as needed to continue to improve services.
  • Work side by side with Section Head during transition to CSOne Phone system. Part of early development meetings for New Contact Center. Assist in creating lists of office needs and prioritizing needs and system requirements. Completed training on using system and training on how to train others in using the system. Part of the team assisting PIO staff on training and using the CXOne system. Review problem issues with Section Head, report problems up the change. Create tickets for OCIO and vendors to initiate problem resolution. Participate in weekly and bi-weekly meetings with vendor and OCIO in an effort to correct problems and improve system.
  • Serving as ISBO for Phase IV of the Contact Center Modernization, which includes the customization and implementation, from training through "go-live" of Salesforce, and continued assessment thereafter. Finding opportunities to leverage diversity by creating specialized teams comprised of staff at all GS levels in PIO as needed for projects, such as the initial stages of Knowledge Management in Salesforce.
  • Continue to help office by performing duties of those of the Senior Copyright Information Specialist outlined below.
  • Serve as Acting Section Head as assigned when Section Head was out of office.
