Projects

Separation Processes simulations:

  • I worked on separating Tetrahydrofuran from water using Aspen, MATLAB, and Excel. Focusing on sustainable practices, I researched optimal solvents and conditions for a liquid-liquid extraction process. I compared our methods to industry standards and developed an alternative approach aligned with Green Chemistry principles that achieved profitable yields. Additionally, I established a pressure-swing distillation column from scratch, achieving a 95% yield and 99.95% purity.

Industry Sustainability project:

  • I researched and proposed alternatives to industry standards for PET recycling. The two methodologies I explored for improving green initiatives were glycolysis and methanolysis. By reviewing published journals and research papers, I scrutinized both processes regarding their general chemistry, industrial process conditions, and product yield. This research led to viable proposals for companies in the industry to improve production with either process, depending on their priorities and goals.
