Work History

Quality Engineer

Joe Gibbs Racing
Huntersville, NC
03.2024 - Current
  • Overview of duties:
  • Inspect suspension, steering, and chassis components for all 4 Joe Gibbs Racing cars, and all 3 23XI cars, after each race to capture post race "wear and tear" data for race engineers to analyze for race car setups. This typically involved several hundred parts collectively to be checked each week, which I complete in 4 days.
  • Check parts by using precision metrology methods such as CMM, Perthometer, and visual comparator machines, using drawings with detailed GD&T call outs.
  • Parts inspected include race car parts, as well as custom manufactured parts for our aerospace and defense clients.
  • Hand checked methods for measuring such as micrometers, calipers, and various gauges are also used.
  • During the off season I use my CNC, manual machining, and other engineering skills to assist the rest of the race shop to get ready for the upcoming season.
  • Summary of tasks:
  • CMM Operating and programming
  • Fixture Setup
  • Perthometer
  • CNC Operating
  • Material NDT testing using XRF (X-ray) equipment to determine metallurgical identity.
  • Calibrate measurement instruments
  • Keep measurement instruments operational and organized
  • Engine cylinder head QC
  • Engine valve QC check for form
  • Material hardness testing
  • ISO 9001

Design Engineer + Project Manager

Kontek Industries
Kannapolis, NC
07.2019 - 03.2024
  • Overview of duties:
  • Used engineering, and project management skills, to design and produce armored products, applications for ballistically threatened environments, predominantly nuclear security, DOD, and law enforcement entities.
  • Manage projects to be completed in a proficient manner based on timelines and budgets. Typical budgets ranged from $20,000-1.5M.
  • Created detailed drawing packets for fabrication use.
  • Use available manufacturing methods to determine cost effective solutions. Typically involved heavy fabrication methods due to most products being armor plate.
  • Worked and communicated with 3rd party vendors as well as end customers to collect information for project needs.
  • Provided estimated costs for materials and labor as needed.
  • Insured high quality outcomes of products by rigorous inspection process.
  • Designed, fabricated, and tested custom products to meet design and ballistic standards. This involved explosive and firearm testing within safe and controlled environments.
  • Summary of tasks:
  • Engineering Design
  • Project Management
  • Ballistic Threat Analysis
  • Project Estimating
  • Additive manufacturing
  • Detailed Fabrication Drawings
  • Detailed Drawings with GD&T for machining
  • NDT testing to identify various ballistic materials
  • Destructive Ballistic Testing with Firearms and Explosives
  • Quality Inspection
  • Project Installation

Engineering Designer + Field Engineer

NorthStar Energy Services
Huntersville, NC
02.2015 - 06.2019
  • Overview of Duties
  • Used CAD to design 2D & 3D models for the creation of job books used for natural gas and petroleum pipeline projects.
  • Traveled to job sites to record "as-built" information for completed & installed projects.
  • Record information in the field on job sites with survey crews and inspectors.
  • Summary of tasks:
  • AutoCad Design of pipeline
  • Create construction drawings
  • Record "As-Built" drawings
  • NDT X-Ray testing of pipeline welds
  • Mag particle testing on pipeline welds
  • Liquid Penetrant testing for cracks

Cabinet Fabricator

Anderson Wood Works
China Grove, NC
05.2007 - 08.2010
