  • Ensuring the efficient operation of the police department to conform to established policies
  • Supervising assigned officers in the performance of their police duties
  • Assigning duties and tasks to shift officers/investigators regarding extra patrol and surveillance
  • Preparing written reports on officers regarding cases of neglect of duty or misconduct
  • Answering calls, making arrests and carrying out investigations
  • Establish command and notify superior of emergency shootings, high-speed chases, pursuits, etc
  • Execute the service program within my area of responsibility, which includes the apprehension and prosecution of offenders, preservation of the peace, and enforcement of regulatory measures/guidelines, protection of life and property, and prevention and suppression of crime
  • Conduct examinations of arms, ammunition, belts, and holsters of assigned personnel, reporting any deficiencies to superiors
  • Assure that welfare and physical condition of prisoners is upheld and that civil rights of such persons are not violated
  • Ensure the assignment, proper processing, and return of all citations, warrants and other legal documents
  • Assist with the needs of citizens requesting service, assistance, or information, courteously explaining any instance where jurisdiction does not lie with the police department and providing procedures to be followed
  • Secure, receipt, and transport evidence and property coming into police custody
  • Supervise subordinates in investigations, direct and instruct subordinates regarding discovery of and suppression of illicit traffic, narcotics, gambling, and prostitution
  • Collaborate fully with other agencies in jurisdictions to include various local, state and federal task forces
  • Investigate all crimes assigned, question witnesses, victims, and suspects to determine factual material and provide evidence of leads
  • Responsible for presentation of Grand Jury indictments
  • Reviews departmental reports and other data pertaining to criminal cases such as auto theft, armed robbery, homicide, fraud, assault, arson, offenses involving controlled substances and other related crimes.
  • Responsible for Taser training/certifications, and the Field Training Officer Program.
  • Assigned to Washington High School as a School Resource Officer.
  • As SRO assisted in the implementation of the emergency Standard Response Protocol for Jefferson County Schools, member of the county safety team, presentations for staff in active shooter response
  • Assist in the development of a Reunification plan for all county schools in the event of a mass incident
  • Supervisor for a student leadership program
  • Responsible for providing a safe and secure building for over 1,400 students.
