

Starting in 1975, Jonathan taught music classes, for 34 years, in the Lake-Lehman School District. He devoted 20 years in elementary general, vocal, and instrumental music, 14 years in Junior and Senior High Chorus and general music classes, was the assistant High School Band Director for 6 years, directed 6 elementary musicals, and produced and directed 14 high school plays and musicals.
For 42 years, Mr. Pineno has been an adjunct faculty member at Misericordia University in Dallas, Pa. At Misericordia, he started teaching private clarinet lessons in 1979, taught Instrumental Methods Classes, facilitated Music and Art History Classes on campus, created and taught Jazz/Popular Music courses, and for the last 15 years, has been a leading faculty member in the creation and facilitation of online Arts Courses.
From 2011 to 2017, Jonathan taught online Humanities and Arts classes, for the University of Phoenix.
Currently, Jonathan Pineno is a full-time Arts and Humanities Faculty member for Penn State Wilkes-Barre and an adjunct fine arts course facilitator for Penn State Hazleton. He teaches Art and Music History, American Popular Music, History of Hip Hop, History of Photography, Forensic Photography, and History of Theater. He also manages the on-campus Penn State Wilkes-Barre Friedman Art Gallery and is the current president of the non-profit group Arts at Hayfield.
On Friday, April 17, 2026, from 12:20 to 1:00 p.m. in McGurrin Hall room 202, Jonathan Pineno, assistant professor of music and arts from Penn State Wilkes-Barre, presented his ongoing research project, “The Ethics of Using Artificial Intelligence to Create Music.” The Planning Committee for the National Interdisciplinary Conference on “Confronting the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence” accepted his proposal for presentation at the April 2026 conference at the University of Scranton.
In January 2026, the Penn State University OVPCC Seed Grant Program review committee received a highly competitive slate of submissions and accepted and approved funding for Jonathan Pineno’s research project, “The Ethics of Using Artificial Intelligence to Create Music.”
The scope of the work for Jonathan’s project includes the creation and distribution of multiple formal and informal surveys and polls to be completed by students enrolled in arts classes at Penn State Wilkes-Barre and Penn State Hazleton.
