Bridge Watch: Assisted the conning Officer with lookout duties: calling every contact, debris, squalls, navigational aids, etc.


Helmsman (RFPNW): steer the vessel per the conning officer's commands.


Maintenance: Repairing and maintaining the vessel, including rust work, painting, deck work, equipment, and sanitation.


Line Handling: Mooring operations at least twice a day. Operating winches, safety checks of all mooring lines, heaving lines, and monkey's fists.





Cruise Operations - Parking

Cruise Terminal Traffic Control: assisted passengers and other vehicles on where to park, pick up, and drop off for the cruise terminal.


Gangway Operations: connected and disconnected large gangways for all cruise terminals. Effective communication with the ship to shoreside to make sure passengers were on and off the vessel in the safest way possible.


Mooring Operations: In charge of landside mooring operations for the inbound cruise ships. Pulling in mooring lines and placing them on bollards in the best position per the ship and harbor master.

Accomplishments

Hawse Piper: began as an entry level and proudly worked my way up to where I am today. Ordinary Seaman to AB/Boatswain.


Rescue Operation: Rescued a tipped-over kayaker 2 miles off the coast of Port Canaveral. As boatswain, along with another AB, we drove the rescue boat to assist the kayaker. The kayaker was then transported back to port on the Port Pilot boat that also came to help.
