  • Assist fitter on aligning, positioning, and fitting plate, piping, and structural shapes into fabricated products for boats.
  • Ensure proper placement of welding leads in the designated work area for final welding for the welders.
  • At the discretion and direction of the fitter, place tacks in short beads on flat, horizontal, vertical, diagonal, and overhead positions through manual guidance of electrode on a welding line along with ensuring the weld is of proper bead size and characteristics.
  • On a daily basis would use a grinder to remove excess welds, smooth out rough edges hazardous to the working environment, and remove rust to provide smooth results on surfaces needed to be used at layout for further fitting of plate.
  • Provided consistent holds, positions, and reading of tape measure for structural layout with addition to use of hammers, clamps, wedges, and come-a-longs for part alignment to guarantee accurate and precise placement.
  • Continuous use of proper electrodes for various materials to avoid distortion or damage to material needed.
  • Occasionally aid in marking reference lines or locations requiring cutting or drilling along with use of torch to provide said cuts or remove excess plate to be set aside for usable material.
  • Provided assistance to place gaskets, packing, liners, bearings, hatches, brackets, flanges, rudders, coolers, and other structural accessories.
  • With close of business or task completion, ensured proper cleanliness of the work area through placing scrap at designated bins and returning all unused tools to the tool room for proper accountability of equipment.
  • Assumed the duties of placing welds of longer beads under the circumstance a welder may not be available at the time or is occupied with their given tasks.
  • Able to comprehend and translate in the case of a language barrier of Spanish to English or vice versa.
