Josef Nathaniel P. Urbiztondo is the off-shift lead supervisor for the Aerospace Ground Equipment flight for the 325 Maintenance Squadron at Tyndall AFB. As the lead supervisor, he oversees 3 personnel, providing daily mentorship, training, and leadership to each member of the flight. He is also in charge of the maintenance operation that is being conducted in the Aerospace Ground Equipment flight during the off-shift hours providing an extended operational support for the brand-new F-35 Aircraft Maintenance Unit and backing the recently changed Tyndall AFB’s mission statement "TRAIN AND PROJECT UNRIVALED COMBAT POWER!” He is tasked with the day-to-day dispatch and operation of 130 ground equipment for readiness and sustaining his flight’s mission capabilities to a solid 92%.
Josef Nathaniel P. Urbiztondo enlisted in the United States Air Force in May 2016 as an Aerospace Ground Equipment technician. He is currently attending American Military University in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree for Legal Studies aiming to graduate with honors.
During his 8 years of military career, Urbiztondo was stationed in Davis-Monthan AFB as his first duty station. He was a member of the ACE council and volunteered annually for the Arizona Food Bank. He also served as a primary Aerospace Ground Equipment Dispatch driver and maintainer for the 451st Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Squadron under the United States Air Force Central Command in Kandahar AB, Afghanistan in 2019 where he supported 12 A-10 fighter aircraft and meeting the demands of its combat mission requirements. He was later stationed in Osan Airbase, Republic of Korea where he would stay for almost 3 years supporting the 51st Maintenance Squadron under the MAJCOM of PACAF. It is where he got promoted into a Staff Sergeant and swore in as an NCO of the United States Air Force. He was tasked to lead the Aerospace Ground Equipment flight off-shift hours, then later transitioned to the Maintenance Support program handling the Environmental Hazardous Material, and Waste Management of the 51st Maintenance Squadron Aerospace Ground Equipment flight. He also took charge of the Fuel Tank management program, and the Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory program of his flight. Overhauling and rebuilding the entire support program of his flight finding over 90 discrepancies, missing memorandums, and permit. He spearheaded the process constantly following up on different agencies ensuring 100% foreign national environmental compliance in his 2 months of taking over the programs. He later earned the 51stFighter Wing Unit Effectiveness Inspection Top Performer Award of the year 2022. He also volunteered to be a facilitator for the 51st Fighter Wing Career Development Center, teaching Conflict Resolution, and Unconscious Bias for the First Term Airman Course to help and mentor new Airman coming in to their first duty station. SSgt Urbiztondo facilitated Sexual Assault Prevention and Suicide Prevention course training 30 Aerospace Ground Equipment personnel for the 51st Maintenance Squadron annually for 2 years.
