Work History

Program Analyst

VHA Support Service Center
08.2015 - Current
  • Company Overview: This is a federal job
  • I provide project coordination with appropriate business, technical and/or healthcare domain knowledge
  • I am the project coordinator for seven products
  • One example of this was my work on the VSSC PACT Act product
  • I coordinated the development of this product with business knowledge of the legislation that was coordinated with other national program offices, including Office of Health Transformation and Office of Primary Care
  • Technical knowledge of how to use the various development software of T-SQL, SSIS (Integration Services), and PowerBI to retrieve the necessary data, process it, transform it into useable information based on developed business logic, and then also present it in a way that met the needs of customers in the field and national offices
  • Healthcare domain knowledge was used to know what data to retrieve, where it was located, and what it means in order to successfully build the product
  • I was both the coordinator and developer of the product that is used nationally
  • I have lead staff in data analysis, data mining, reporting, and program development for designated content areas; consulting with a variety of customers to understand needs, develop solutions, both in conceptual design and in coding, and ensure that the initiatives being delivered are of a high standard in terms of fit for purpose, design and code
  • In addition to performing each of these in the projects I manage, I also lead staff on a national Question and Answer call
  • This call allows me to work with staff from across the nation that have various data needs and we do live demonstrations on how to meet those specific needs
  • This involves discussions of data sources, building reports in various analysis software like Pyramid and PowerBI, and original data source tables and coding
  • Another example was my development of the Service Act product
  • I lead discussions with the Women's program office to learn about data needs, coordinated with staff from various VSSC teams and other subject matter experts, developed the SQL coding to retrieve data, developed the SSIS process to develop table and ensure automation update daily with the data, and designed the PowerBI report
  • This end product was approved by the Women's Program Office leadership and is being used nationally
  • I collaborate and provide consultation at all levels of an organization, designing, developing and deploying information, data collection applications, analytic studies, and other automated tools to assist in providing oversight of critical functions related to the organization
  • My previous examples of Service Act product development and PACT Act product development were examples of my collaboration and consultation with colleagues internal to the VSSC, national program offices to meet specific reporting needs, and even indirectly from congressional inquiries
  • In addition to these examples, I developed and manage a data table used across the VSSC for demographics
  • This provides critical demographic data that can be consistently used across products and has been automated to update daily
  • One critical piece of data that was recently added was ADI (Area Deprivation Index) that is used for analytic studies by Office of Health Equity
  • I maintain knowledge and skill in advanced programming techniques and languages including SQL, HTML, JavaScript, Java, XML, MDX, Visual Basic
  • My current duties include the use of Microsoft Business Intelligence (BI) Suite, including SQL, SSIS (Integration Services), SSRS (Reporting Services) , and SSAS (Analysis Services)
  • I have experience with various programming languages such as SQL, MDX, OLAP, JavaScript, and HTML
  • In addition, experience with BIOffice, Pyramid Analytics, Reporting Services, and PowerBI
  • Routinely work with data sources such as CDW (Corporate Data Warehouse) and Enrollment data to transform into useable data for stakeholders
  • This includes creating business rules for the data and data definitions for the data products the customers use
  • I produce information and evaluate/analyze, on a quantitative or qualitative basis, the effectiveness of programs or operations in meeting established goals and objectives
  • Examples of this include monitoring report usage (quantitative), customer satisfaction scores (quantitative and qualitative), and suggestion/feedback (qualitative) from customers
  • In addition, I have worked with Office of Performance Measure staff in developing and quantitative reporting various performances measures monthly for workload and Toxic Exposure Screening volumes

  • Served in a special detail capacity at the request of VISN leadership for our director
  • The Medical Center Director was visually impaired and the emails that he would receive that often included charts, was not readable via the special software on his computer
  • Therefore, my role was to interpret the data from the various charts and graphs and translate them into words (put them in a readable format)
  • This way, his computer could read what I had put into wording
  • I served in this capacity for many months, basically as long as I was needed
  • This speaks to my ability to interpret both quantitative and qualitative data and put them into usable formats for process improvement
