- Follow state and USDOT road minimum mandatories.
Perform essential sampling and field testing of materials using standard methods and tests.
- Perform basic surveying, including Survey Helper duties; reducing and checking field book notes of simple surveys; determining, plotting, and checking the basic cross sections.
- Drafts simple designs and tracings by using good standard practices with proper line widths and letters, including standard title and location sheets, plans, profiles, survey notes, standard summary sheets, and estimated quantities.
- Draft property line plots and simple, completed surveys.
- Draft simple maps, charts, graphics, and diagrams.
- Inventory streets, roads, and install traffic control devices.
Duties as a Summer Worker for the West Virginia Division of Highways include the following, but aren’t limited to:
- Clean and sweep garage areas
- Perform maintenance and clean fleet vehicles
- Perform maintenance on SRIC equipment (snow removal and ice control)
- Perform yard maintenance
- Run a forklift, a front loader, a snow plow, a boom mower, etc.
Duties as a Transportation Worker I mechanic for the West Virginia Division of Highways include the following, but are not limited to:
- Light to medium duty maintenance on fleet vehicles such as 1/2-ton to 1-ton pickups, front loaders, backhoes, forklifts, flail mowers, boom mowers, etc.
- Emergency repairs anywhere, in any weather, on all fleet vehicles.
- Light to medium body repairs
- Installation of safety equipment, such as emergency light bars and lights.

- Perform maintenance on golf course equipment
- Use and apply chemicals to greens and fairways
- Mow fairways, roughs, etc.
