Work History

Undergraduate Student Researcher

Virginia Tech
2022.05 - 2022.08
  • Conducted research at Virginia Tech's physics department on cosmic ray tagger calibration for the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (ProtoDUNE)
  • Modified calibration code written in C++ from the Double Chooz experiment to fit ProtoDUNE's far detector geometry and tested the calibration using experimental data
  • Studied the detector's principles of operation to understand the calibration process and why it is needed. In part, this included learning about Silicon Photomultipliers and potential sources of signal noise.
  • Collaborated with my mentor professor and graduate students to test and adapt calibration methods
  • Attended faculty-led lectures on developments in neutrino physics and related theories
  • Presented research findings in the form of a written paper and poster at two research symposia

Undergraduate Student Researcher

Mississippi State University
2021.05 - 2022.01
  • Modified an R program to analyze data from the Proton Radius Experiment (PRad) at Jefferson Lab
  • Adapted a statistical analysis tool originally designed for the Mainz Experiment using Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods
  • Conducted independent research on the Proton Radius Puzzle, Bayesian data analysis, and R programming
  • Gained strong skills in simplifying complex concepts for effective understanding

Volunteering

  • I volunteered up to twice a week at the Wesley Food Pantry in Northside village, Houston, to distribute food to families in need. My tasks entailed the organization, categorization, and replenishment of donated food items, and duties included handling the loading and unloading of freezers, refrigerators, and shelves, as well as preparing grocery bags with food for distribution to clients' cars.
