Highly motivated person who is great at developing relationships with people. The early part of my career, I used my genuine interest in getting to know others and pursued a career in sales. Throughout my journey, I was a salesperson for a car dealership, a municipal bond brokerage firm, and an office supply company. The competitive nature of being part of a sales team was an environment that allowed me to thrive because I was always motivated to be the best. Also, due to the commission based pay and every person starting back at 0 after the completion of every month, it taught me valuable lessons about not giving up or becoming complacent after a good sales month. Continuously being told no by numerous people who I would call or see face to face and having to learn how to handle failure was the most valuable aspect of working in sales.
Although I never envisioned me working in any industry that was not sales-oriented, in 2018, I decided to take a leap of faith. It is difficult to determine whether or not I would have left a career in sales, the only profession I knew, I came to the conclusion I needed to take a chance and go back to school to obtain an MS in Addiction Counseling. Working in sales allowed me to build a foundation that gave me the confidence to pursue a career that has a special meaning to me and a career that I knew I would love. Being able to form relationships and communicate with professionals in several different industries, will allow me to be effective when working with various demographics because we might be polar opposites in every way, but we can connect on the struggle and pain that addiction affects individuals and their families/ loved-ones.
