• Backtender, Testing the paper quality including color, porosity, brightness, strength, weight, opacity, cobb, wet strength, smoothness, thickness and many other specifications., Checking the paper for wrinkles and hardness., Watching the profile of the roll and making proper adjustments on the heat, crown, load share, PLI, moisture, and adjusting the weight as needed., Keeping up with the roll diameter and footage to ensure proper turn ups with limited or no waste., Marking the holes or defects in the rolls to be spliced, and assisting with the splices as needed., Assisting with the change of wire, felts, and doctor blades., Training new Backtenders, 3rd and 4th hands., Assisting the Machine Tender and other members of the machine crew as needed.
• 3rd Hand, Primary responsibility was efficiently running the rewinder., Checking the work orders to ensure of the proper core diameter, tension, roll diameter, roll sizes, and splicing procedures., Setting up the slitters, and replacing if needed., Making splices to remove defects from rolls., Assisting the 4th hand as needed.
• 4th Hand, Wrapping rolls with plastic and kraft wrap., Weighing wrapped rolls and proper labeling the rolls., Assisting with splices., Entering all of the roll information into the computer., Moving finished rolls to the proper storage location.
