Human Resources Lead Generalist

Workers Compensation, Workplace Safety, and Ergonomics

  • Responsible for all multi-state Workers’ Compensation Claims: file WC claims with Workers’ Compensation carrier, act as liaison with employees and managers, medical office, Workers’ Compensation carrier & broker; work with managers to fully utilize return to work program
  • Provide employees with proper paperwork to seek medical treatment
  • Prepare and send letters and documentation to employees regarding approved workers’ compensation leaves
  • Partner with workers’ compensation adjusters and brokers to ensure claims are handled appropriately to the benefit of the employee and the University and in compliance with applicable regulations
  • Proactively engage employees in the return-to-work process and facilitate necessary return to work process steps
  • Track all workers’ compensation claims and manage the OSHA 300 log reporting
  • Manage all University requests for ergonomic assessments, provide ergonomic recommendations to employees, handle all requests for ergonomic equipment, and support with securing necessary ergonomic equipment to support with a safe and productive work environment

Work Accommodations

  • Engage in the interactive process with employees who request reasonable work accommodations due to a disability; thoroughly assess each accommodation request to fully understand the need, business impact, and implications of federal, state, and local law; partner with Human Resource leadership and/or Employee Relations Partner on complex cases
  • Develop, maintain and provide required paperwork and notices relating to accommodation requests; ensure employee is placed on leave in Workday and Payroll
  • Ensure timely entry of leave related absences in Workday as unpaid time off, vacation, sick leave and/or floating holiday and ensure those absences are processed by Payroll
  • Accurately respond to state, local, and general inquiries relating to Workers’ Compensation, leaves and accommodations; Accurately respond to state department requests for payment and wage benefits for eligible leave of absences
  • Ensure those on leave of absence are notified of their benefit continuation rights and continue to pay their per paycheck benefit premiums to continue benefits; Follow standard procedure to manage non-payment of benefits
  • Monitor and track all LOA’s and accommodations and provide weekly reporting to the Human Resources Manager

Human Resources Compliance

  • Review all employment agreements generated for new hires by the HR Generalist to ensure accuracy and compliance with the Academy’s employment agreement standards; identify corrections to be made or approve each agreement by the deadline provided by the HR Generalist
  • Ensure employees are properly informed of their rights, company policies and procedures in a timely manner
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding disclosed health matters and protected health information in compliance with HIPAA regulations
