● Support multiple District Divisions with traffic volume forecasts to assist in determining future transportation travel-demand and behavior including Average Daily Traffic, Peak Hour Volumes, Level of Service, Traffic Indices, Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT), and other data as requested.
● Assist Headquarters District with special projects in gathering data and performing multi-calculations to provide Travel-Time Reliability Indices and Cal BC Ratios.
● Gather and compile traffic data to conduct quantitative analysis and to inform modeling development and calibration efforts for transportation decision-making.
● Apply use of transportation software including Synchro (microsimulation), TransCAD (modeling), and Highway Capacity Software to determine future travel demands and operational behaviors.
● Navigate and extract relevant information from database servers such as Performance Measurement Systems (PeMS), National Performance Measurement Research Data Set (NPMRDS), Institute Transportation Engineers (ITE) Trip Generation, and Traffic Accident Surveillance and Analysis System (TASAS) to retrieve pertinent traffic information.
● Develop customized spreadsheet calculators to expedite and simplify processes within the Forecasting unit: implementing forecasting methodology (interpolation/extrapolation, difference-method, post-processing), obtaining operational outputs (Level of Service, Density, High-Occupancy Vehicle degradation) and capacity outputs (traffic volumes and balancing).
● Build miscellaneous spreadsheet tables and forms on request to present and organize information, for example, through the Forecasting activity-monitoring log, requested forecasting data and California Benefit-Cost Analysis.
● Assume leadership of the team by designating and distributing tasks as needed, which involves training new and existing team members, monitoring team performances, reviewing and approving out-going memorandums, and attending meetings to provide traffic forecasting guidance and solutions.
● Review traffic studies with other local and regional engineering agencies to address and resolve potential impacts to local state facilities. This includes consideration of implementation of Senate Bill 743 under CEQA guidelines for Greenhouse Gas reduction by means of reviewing VMT analysis.
●Assist other engineering units in manual counting projects including HOV counts, MioVision Camera deployment, and customized spreadsheet calculators to complete the bi-annual Managed Lanes Report for the headquarters
