Undergraduate student at UNC Chapel Hill pursuing a double major in Neuroscience and Psychology with hands-on research experience. Skilled in investigating the neural circuitry underlying alcohol and substance use disorders, with a strong interest in the rehabilitative potential of pharmacological treatments. Seeking a summer internship opportunity to contribute to clinical drug trials and gain experience translating research into therapeutic applications for mental health.
As an undergraduate researcher in the McElligott Lab, I study the neural circuitry underlying affective behaviors and substance use disorders, with my current research focused on neurotensin signaling in the central amygdala (CeA). Through a combination of behavioral assays, molecular techniques, and imaging approaches, I explore how neuropeptides and neural connectivity influence addiction and reward-related behaviors. I am responsible for running behavioral experiments, preparing and slicing brain tissue for post-mortem analysis, and performing imaging.
I investigated the relationship between sugar consumption and cognitive performance through the use of indirect calorimetry to assess metabolic activity. I researched the endocannabinoid system in order to help develop a potential follow-up project examining how cannabis consumption may influence glucose metabolism, feeding behavior, and cognitive performance—commonly referred to as the “munchies” effect.
RENEW internship-peer student counselor. Conducted individualized instructional sessions relating to time and stress management, study skills, healthy relationships, and conflict resolutions. Developed interactive presentations that showcased the counseling and psychological programs offered at FSU. Worked toward de-stigmatizing mental health issues.
Starting from my sophomore year of high school until I left for college in the summer of 2023, I held a multi-sided role at the Maugus Restaurant. My responsibilities included: training and supervising of new & experienced staff members, management of the register (antiquated system), seating of guests, bussing tables during hectic breakfast and lunch hours, dealing with distraught and upset customers, bridging language barriers between staff and clientel, and establishing long-term connections with our senior citizen regular patrons. This position strengthened my leadership, communication, and multitasking skills in a fast-paced, community-centered environment.
